Thief slot review (Netent)

The introduction screen immediately shows there are Expanded Wilds. Also, there are not one but two (!) ways to score free spins. That right away puts me in a good mood.

Netent’s Thief is about a female thief equipped with ultramodern gadgets

A thrilling tune is playing in the background, as well as the sound of rain. I hope this thief can steal me some valuable prizes! My heartbeat is starting to increase…On to that Adrenaline boost!

Payout rate and variance of the Thief slot

The game has an excellent 96.7% payout rate and an average variance. The base game regularly treats you to small payouts.

The Expanding Wilds and the Scatters are the symbols on your side to make this happen. Especially the Adrenaline Scatter can turn everything upside down. Keep on reading to find out how this works.

Thief gameplay & features

The game consists of 5 reels and 3 rows, with a betting range between $€ 0.25 and $€ 125 per spin. Thief has 25 fixed paylines.

The game’s symbols are a diamond and multiple gadgets in the colours red, yellow, purple, green and blue. These are the so-called ‘Thief Symbols.’ I’ll call them ‘gadgets’ because these ultra-modern items’ exact workings remain a mystery to me. They do look cool, however.

Besides, there’s the playing card letters/numbers A, K, Q, J and 10. These are the lowest paying symbols; with 5 identical symbols, you get between 2 x and 4 x your bet. With 5 of the same symbols, the blue gadget pays 6 x your bet, the green gadget 8 x, the purple gadget 10 x, the yellow gadget 12 x, and the red gadget 20 x your bet.

The diamond symbol only appears during the Adrenaline Free Spins and yields 1 x your bet with 2-of-a-kind, 8 x with 3-of-a-kind, 40 x with 4 of the same symbols, and 200 (!) x your bet with 5 identical symbols. Keep an eye out for this symbol during your Adrenaline free spins, as it could lead to pretty sweet payouts!

Expanding wilds

The wild symbol is the lady burglar. It replaces all symbols except the Scatter symbol and the Adrenaline Scatter symbol. The Wild occurs on reels 2, 3 and 4 and is an Expanding Wild. This means it extends over the entire reel as soon as a payline is detected.

I’ve encountered this lucrative expanding wild mechanism before, with slots like Hot Safari (Pragmatic Play) and Girls With Guns (Microgaming). The latter also being a slot with a good dose of girl power!

Extra options: The game has a Quickspin option, which accelerates the spins. Furthermore, you can view your latest winnings in your Game History (this is only possible if you’re playing with real money) and set your space bar as a spin button.

Bonus rounds

Netent blessed us with 2 different Scatter symbols, getting you different free spins bonuses. Something I haven’t encountered very often yet.

Firstly, there’s the blue Scatter. This symbol appears on reels 3, 4 and 5. With 3-of-a-kind, you get 10 free spins. The Scatter symbol remains present during the free spins, possibly winning you another 10 free spins.

Then there’s the orange Scatter symbol, the Adrenaline Scatter. This one also appears on reels 3, 4 and 5. However, this one is not too present during the free spins. The prizes you can win with the Adrenaline scatter are a lot higher than with the blue scatter due to the golden diamonds’ presence. These are only on the reels during the Adrenaline scatters.

Both Scatters, although present in duplicate, don’t appear often. Luckily, to get those free spins, you can also make combinations with the different Scatters. I hadn’t seen that coming, Netent! Very cunning…I like that.

Our verdict on Thief

I’ve played better Netent video slots in terms of gaming experience, but Thief is certainly entertaining.

The Expanding Wilds and 2 (!) different scatters do make the game challenging. I was also pleasantly surprised you can mix the different Scatters. Kudos to Netent!

I will definitely swing by again to see if I steal some winnings with the Thief video slot.
