How does the Tome of Madness slot work?
You play Tome of Madness on a matrix of 5 x 5 symbols. The cluster mechanism is active and winning combinations appear starting from four identical symbols.
Winning combinations disappear, after which new ones drop down in their place. That way, you can make several winning combinations in succession. It would be best if you had these to earn the extra boosters and free spins. More about this later.
First, a few house rules: the betting ranges from $€ 0.10 up to $€ 100 per spin, and the theoretical payout rate is 96.59%.

Symbols and payouts
There are four high and four low regular symbols.
The purple amulet has the highest value: a cluster of 10+ of these symbols will get you 100 x the total bet.
If you create a cluster of Daggers, rings, or skulls, you win between 30 x and 60 x your total bet.
The four gemstones (purple, red, green, and blue) pay out a maximum of between 2 x and 6 x your total bet.
The famous book symbol is wild and replaces all other symbols.
Portal Features: mini bonuses and extra wilds
Sometimes an eye is placed on a random spot on the matrix. If you can make a winning combination at the location of this eye, you will receive a non-winning combination of 2 random wilds as a gift.
But there is more: on the left-hand side of the screen, you see the portal filled up more as you create more winning combinations.
Two extra wilds are placed on the matrix with every level you reach in the portal.
If you make a winning combination with these, you win an additional booster:
- Abyss: a row or column with symbols is removed + 2 extra wilds
- Void: a random symbol is removed + 2 extra wilds
Special wilds
There are special wilds that always activate a booster.
And lastly, there are multiplier wilds with the likeness of Rich Wilde on them. These double the payout on that combination.
Are you starting to feel a bit dizzy? Honestly, we felt the same. Sometimes there is so much happening during and after a spin that, pretty quickly, you have no idea anymore of what exactly is going on.
