Ocean’s Treasure slot review (Netent)

Are you a fan of the game mechanism of Steam Tower, but are you looking for a bigger thrill and hopefully higher profits? Then Ocean’s Treasure is, without a doubt, a very suitable slot for you. Furthermore, visually and theme-wise, the slot flavour of the month seems to be squid if we see the recent Kraken slots released by Play’n GO (Eye of the Kraken), Pragmatic Play (Release The Kraken), and Thunderkick (Kraken’s Lair). So the squid bandwagon came and went, and then Netent released their squid slot. That is leading the end of the queue, not leading the online slot industry…

The top 10 most volatile (high variance) Netent Slots

Ocean’s Treasure is a “new” Netent release, inviting you to descend deep into the dark ocean

We’ve put “new” in quotation marks on purpose because Ocean’s Treasure is an almost one-on-one copy of the famous Steam Tower video slot.

Apart from the fact that the theme has changed from a Steam Punk world to the wondrous world below sea level, there are still a few differences:

  • The payout percentage is a lot lower at 95.99%.
  • The variance is significantly higher.

Nevertheless, let’s see what’s cooking?!

The RTP, Variance (volatility) & Maximum win of Netent’s Ocean Treasure

The payout percentage of Ocean Treasure is lower than what we expect from Netent slots: 95.99%. It is not that the RTP is really bad, but many Netent slots have a much better payout rate.

The variance or volatility of Ocean Treasure is medium-high, according to Netent. This implies that wins of 1,000x the bet are undoubtedly possible here during the free spins. However, only if you reached the highest level with the largest possible multiplier of x 12. Wins of 3,000x or 4,000x the total bet are less likely. If you get such a win, it will be an absolute miracle.

If you prefer to play more volatile Netent slots, you can look at our top 10 high variance Netent slots.

Netent has not published the maximum win. But if you do a billion spins, it might well be possible to grab a win of 5,000x the bet. We are not 100% sure, though, as we have not done the 1 billion spins!

Ocean’s Treasure gameplay and features

Ocean’s Treasure has a playing field consisting of 5 reels, 3 rows of symbols and 15 fixed paylines.

This slot is suitable for both players with the smallest wallet and high rollers with the biggest wallet: the betting range is set between $€ 0.15 and $€ 300 per spin.

Now let’s look at the symbols and payouts. There are two types of wilds: regular wilds and stacked wilds (the sea goddess). They both replace all other symbols except the scatters. They activate the free spins bonus.

The four high paying symbols (a diamond, a bottle with a letter in it, and a compass and key) are worth between 30 x and 100 x the total bet with five of the same.

The card symbols (J, Q, K and A), in case of a 5-of-a-kind, yield between 4 x and 10 x the total bet.

Free spins bonus with progressive multipliers

The base game of Ocean’s Treasure is very tame, but fortunately, that changes quickly when you manage to hit three scatters.

Now you win 10 free spins with a x 3 multiplier.

During the free spins, the trick is to spin as many wilds as possible.

If you spin at least one wild, you win the following extras:

  • +2 free spins (up to a maximum of 102 free spins)
  • Every two “wild” spins with increase the multiplier
  • Earn additional multipliers of x 5, x 7, x 9 and x 12

If you reach the highest level (level 5), then you’ll also get a nice cash prize of 1,500 coins (100 x the total bet): that is a nice freebie.

Our verdict on the Ocean’s Treasure slot?

Ocean’s Treasure is certainly not a bad Netent release, but to say they have turned the corner? No, they have not.

The slot is too simple and only comes to life when you win the free spins bonus.

Fortunately, the bonus feature is a lot of fun: the frequent retriggers and increasing multipliers keep you up engaged.

We are a lot less amused about the relatively low payout rate of just under 96%.

Netent slots have always had an excellent reputation as very generous paying slots, but that’s certainly not the case with Ocean’s Treasure.
