At this moment,  we nominate Butterfly Staxx 2 as the “Most unexpected slot sequel in 2019.”

Perhaps we are mistaken, but do slots sequels not only make sense when the original was either very successful or very good? Butterfly Staxx was neither great nor successful.

Therefore, it is a complete mystery why Netent has decided to make a sequel to the tiresome Butterfly Staxx.

Especially since Butterfly Staxx 2, except for some additional bonus features, is almost identical to the original version.

It looks like Netent has wholly lost it 2019. Except for Dead or Alive 2 and maybe Narcos, the once-so-mighty Netent has barely released any decent slots.

Their stock price has been in a freefall for years: it confirms the dire straits in which the once so mighty Netent has ended up in the financial markets.

Butterfly 2 Staxx gameplay and features

Butterfly 2 Staxx has 5 reels with 4 rows of symbols and 40 fixed paylines.

There are many mini-features, but huge payouts? Forget it. You can win up to 240x the total bet. It is for a reason why we qualify Butterfly 2 Staxx as a low variance slot.

You can bet with a fixed amount per spin. The minimum stake is $€0.25, and the maximum stake is $€375 per spin.

The theme is just as fluttering as the many butterflies that populate this slot. It is blurry New Age nonsense. So imagine many flowers, soothing music and hypnotic animations.

Suppose that’s your thing: fine. If you are a fan of the Sound of Music, then also fine.  All it does for us is make us very itchy.

The theoretical payout percentage is 96.35%, which is pretty good.

Symbols and payouts

Of all the symbols, the butterflies have the most value. Beware, before you make a joy dance if you manage to get a 5-of-a-kind with the butterfly: 5 butterflies on an active payline will only earn you 2 x the total bet. The strength of this symbol lies in the fact that it appears in stacks of Staxx.

A full screen with butterflies is worth 80 x the total bet.

All other symbols (flowers and card symbols) are barely worth the effort in terms of payouts.

There is another wild symbol that replaces all other symbols except the scatters.

Respin Feature

As soon as a complete stack of butterflies appears on the reels, the Respin Feature activates. All butterflies fly to the left as much as possible, and you get free respins, as long as new butterflies appear.

There is a nice additional built-in: if you manage to “build” another full-stack, you’ll get a screen with respins. You can earn up to two extra screens, bringing the total number of screens to three.

If you manage to get all the screens filled with butterflies, you have earned the top prize: 240 x the total bet. Don’t quit your day job, buster.

Spin three scatters and choose your feature

You win the main bonus feature when you spin three scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5.

Then you can choose between two main bonuses:

Respin Feature with all three screens instantly active

Butterfly Frenzy: 10 picks with mystery prizes, upgrades and retriggers.

Both bonus features lack excitement and are boring, without any decent potential.

For example, the maximum profit in the Pick and Click Feature is no more than 150 x the total bet.

And the Respin Feature is identical to the Respin Feature in the original game. The only difference is that you immediately start with 3 screens.

Our verdict on the Butterfly Staxx 2 slot video slot of Netent

Butterfly Staxx 2 is an entirely unnecessary slot.

The original wasn’t much of a thrill, and the sequel hardly adds anything to it.

It’s about time that Netent puts its act together and starts to provide better quality, innovating slots again. If they don’t manage to do this quickly, they’ll go on the same route as Microgaming. another gaming giant that has completely lost its way.
