Netent’s Boom Brothers slot takes us deep underground, to mines full of gunpowder and riches

Boom Brothers was released in 2010 and is one of the first truly successful online Netent slots.

The game starts with a fun intro, immediately entertaining us well. Here, you will encounter the three brothers; a softy, a cranky and a funny one. I am instantly excited and curious about what else the slot has in store for me.

What about you? The game’s graphics look remarkably good for a slot that is over ten years old – that is a significant plus for this underground theme.

Payout rate and variance of Boom Brothers

The game can have a bad or an excellent payout rate of between 94.6% and 96.6%, with low to medium variance. We have not been able to figure out what makes the difference in RTP. Possibly it depends on the number of paylines you play, which you can adjust manually.

Unfortunately, the Boom Brothers’ instructions do not provide a clear answer.

There are several fun surprises hidden in the game, which add to the overall enjoyment.

Boom Brothers gameplay and features

The game consists of 5 reels and 3 rows, and you can play it from $€ 0.20 per spin, up to a maximum of $€ 100. Boom Brothers has 20 fixed paylines.

The game’s symbols are a white mask, orange mask, green mask, man, lantern, pickaxe, bucket and helmet. The last 5 will reward you the least, namely 3.75 x to 6.25 x your bet for five identical symbols. The green and orange mask will earn you 12.5 x your bet for 5-of-a-kind, and the white mask is worth 25 x your stake.

The Wild symbol replaces all symbols except the Scatter and the Bonus symbol. Besides, this wild symbol can land you some cash as well:

• 5 symbols = 375 x your bet
• 4 symbols = 100 x your bet
• 3 symbols = 10 x your bet
• 2 symbols = 0.25 x your bet

2nd Chance Bonus

The Boom Brothers have some sweet extras in store for us. The three brothers have hidden a bonus feature quartet for us, which can appear at any moment. One of the brothers can throw a dynamite bar at one or more symbols, changing it into another symbol. Also, one pull on the handle can spin one or more reels again or turn one or more symbols into other symbols.

Furthermore, one of the brothers can blow up one or more reels with TNT so they can spin again. These features give you a 2nd chance to create a winning combination. These brothers know how to create an explosive experience!

Extra options: During the game, you can view your Game History (not available in the ‘Play for fun’ mode) and see a preview of the bonus feature ‘Railtrack’. So you can already enjoy and anticipate the fun.

This preview bonus feature is typical for older Netent slots. Nowadays, we haven’t come across it much.

Free Spins Bonus: Free spins with 3 x multipliers.

The Scatter symbol is the sign with ‘Free Spins’ on it. Not surprisingly, three or more of these symbols will award you 10 Free Spins. You will get an extra free spin for each Scatter during your free spin round. What’s more, during the free spins, a Multiplier x 3 is active on all your winnings as well! It can give your balance a serious boost!

Rail Track Bonus

Besides the free spins bonus, Netent has come up with a bonus game called the Rail Track Bonus. Three or more of these symbols can activate the bonus game. You first need to unlock the bonus by completing the rail track. If you succeed, you can enter the bonus game.

Three bonus symbols reward you 2 x your bet, four bonus symbols get you 3x your bet, and five bonus symbols earn you 4 x your bet as well as a guaranteed activation of the bonus game.

During the bonus game, you will see the brothers in separate carts, each on a different track. It would be best if you got them to the other side, where the treasure is. Which of the treasures will you get your hands on?

Our verdict on the Boom Brothers slot

Boom Brothers is rightfully one of the most successful and popular Netent slots of all time.

From the beginning to the end, everything looks slick. A lot is happening along the way, which raises the gaming experience to a level higher. In the base game, however, don’t expect big payouts. The bonus game, with the x 3 Multiplier, is what you are aiming for! The other (random) bonuses are fun extras too.

In the end, I only ended up break-even after playing this slot, but I did have heaps of fun.
