This time, I’m taking the plunge into a slot by Yggdrasil, a software developer that has been on the online market since 2013

The game has an excellent payout rate of 96.1% with low to medium variance.

The game has different types of Wilds in 4 different game modes. Each has its unique character and helps you earn handsome profits. I am a fan of this variety as it keeps the game interesting and provides a change of scenery, once every so often.

How does the Orient Express slot work?

The game consists of 5 reels and 3 rows. It has a minimum bet of $€ 0.20 per spin, with a maximum of up to $€ 100. There are 20 fixed paylines.

Symbols and payouts

The game’s symbols are a dignified lady, a blonde man, a charismatic businessman, an older man and the card symbols hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds.

The card symbols award you the least; 5 of the same symbols earn you 3.75 x to 5 x your bet. The lady is worth 50 x your bet for 5-of-a-kind, the blonde guy pays 45 x your bet, the charismatic businessman 40 x your bet and the older man is worth 37.5 x your total bet.

Explore four different cities

You start your Orient Express journey in the city of love, Paris. A great start, if I may say so.

After activating the free spins bonus, you travel on to Venice.

And then further you go, in the same way, to Belgrade and Istanbul. If you get another free spin bonus after your stay in Turkey, you can go to the city of your choice.

Different kinds of wilds

The Orient Express logo functions as Wild and can pop up in every mode of this game. It replaces all symbols except the Scatter symbol.

Wild symbol Paris; This is the train driver. This Wild shows up randomly, only in Paris mode, and it is a Walking Wild. The Wild moves one position to the left after each spin, until it disappears from the reels. As long as the Walking Wild is on the screen, you have a free re-spin. During the free spins bonus, the Walking Wilds hit the reels more frequently.

Multiplier clock Venice; After a winning spin, the Multiplier clock can be randomly activated in Venice mode. It displays the Multipliers x 2, x 3, x 4 and x 5. In the primary game, this Multiplier only applies to the profit made with that specific winning spin. During the free spins, the Multiplier applies to all winning free spins.

Wild symbol Belgrade; This Wild is a train symbol and only pops up in Belgrade mode. A small train is coming from the right, transporting an Expanded Wild to the reel where the train stops. 1 to 3 Expanded Wilds can hit the reels. During the free spin mode, this applies to every spin.

Wild symbol Istanbul; This is a postcard. The postcards fly across the screen and change 2 to 12 (!) extra symbols into Wilds. During the free spins, the Wild does the same, but it happens during every free spin. I would love to receive such a postcard as well!

Free Spins Bonus

The globe functions as a scatter symbol and activates the free spins bonus.

Our verdict on the Orient Express slot

This is the first Yggdrasil slot I have tested, and Orient Express has set the bar very high. I could sense this being a hit from the very beginning, and I was right, as usual! All the ingredients of this slot make for an optimal gaming experience.

A different Wild sweetheart in every city… As you notice, I need to blow off some steam after Orient Express.
