Wild West slot review (NextGen)
This NextGen slot is suitable for players who don't like spending much. It takes place in a saloon with chandeliers typical for that time and wooden bar stools that are of good use if a fight breaks out, as in any good western. Step into the lawless world of cowboys, saloon girls, booze, and gambling I kind of suspect that at the very least, the latter will spark your enthusiasm. Otherwise, you would probably read a book instead of this review.
Play NowWelcome to Wild West, a video slot developed by NextGen Gaming.
Anyway, you better read on because the Wild West video slot has rules despite the saloon’s lawlessness.
I will explain to Yee Haw, I mean, YOU, how it works.
How does the Wild West slot work?
This Wild West video slot has 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 paylines.
The minimum amount you can bet in the primary game is $€ 0.50, and the maximum amount is $€ 25.
High Rollers can get their money’s worth by using the multiplier of the challenging Superbet feature. You will read more on this later.
Symbols such as the saloon, the saloon girl, the cowboy boots, the whisky bottle with glasses, the money pouches, the dealer card box, and the horse are low-value symbols.
High-value symbols that can award you more cash are the image of the cowboy and the poker chips.
We will get to their exact value and how they work in the “Wild West Bonus Features” section.
Payout rate and variance
The RTP of the Wild West video slot is between 95.313% and 95.868%, depending on whether the Super Bet is activated or not.
The higher the Super Bet, the more generously Wild West rewards the player.
The variance of Wild West is medium.
Wild West Bonus Features
I don’t think the primary game is all too entertaining, but that changes quickly as soon as you activate the Wild West Bonus Features.
If you play it properly and have some luck, you can rake in truly stupefying prizes.
Here are the Wild West Bonus features and the corresponding rules:
Cowboy Wild: When the Cowboy symbol hits the 3rd, 4th, and 5th reel, it completes combinations by replacing all symbols. Except for the poker chips.
The Cowboy symbol also pops up during the Superbet AND Free Spin feature, providing even more substantial profits.
Superbet Feature: You can fill the empty whisky bottle on the right side of the screen by picking a multiplier of 2 x or 5 x. This allows you to multiply the profits you’ve earned with Wilds by up to 5 x. Of course, this chance to win bigger payouts is not for free.
Your bet size is 10 coins extra for the 2 x multiplier, and the 5 x multiplier will cost you an additional 40 coins. But if the Cowboy symbol appears on the reels in a winning combination, it totally pays back! You can also leave the bottle empty, in other words, keep the multiplier off, to play the base game.
Gamble Feature: You may know this feature from other NextGen Gaming video slots.
With the gamble feature, you can take an extra gamble with the amount you won with your last spin.
Guess the correct colour or card symbol and multiply your previous spin’s payout by up to 4 x.
If your guess is wrong, then you will lose the amount you won during your last spin.
Wild West Free spins bonus game
Get yourself a cool cowboy hat and wear your nicest jeans. You are well on your way to an awesome bonus feature!
You activate the Wild West Free spins bonus game when you spin a winning combination that includes the Cowboy symbol.
You then earn 5 free spins. The prize you gained with the winning combination that activated the bonus game is also the value of the poker chips symbol in the Wild West Free spins bonus game.
The poker chips symbol is the scatter of the bonus game.
So did you enter the bonus game with, for example, a winning combination of $€ 100? Then every poker chips symbol you spin during the bonus game is worth $€ 100.
It is easy to imagine how much cash you can win during the Wild West Free spins bonus game.
Our verdict on the Wild West video slot
I think the idea of a saloon theme for a video slot is better than the actual execution of that idea by NextGen Gaming. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with the graphics, the sounds, or the entire playing field. The Wild West video slot is okay. NextGen slots are usually not known for their outstanding visual appearance, and you could argue Wild West is a typical Nextgen slot in that regard.
All symbols on the reels are related to the Wild West theme to keep you in the mood. In other slots, you usually see card symbols or the like sneaking in.
Once I entered the saloon, I didn’t find the primary game very entertaining anymore.
It is fun and exhilarating as soon as you activate the Wild West Bonus features and even more so if you get to play the bonus game.
3 out of 5 stars.
