Iron Girl slot review (Play’n GO)

iron-girl-play n go review

The Iron Girl slot revolves around a superheroine who hunts bad guys, the Super-Villains. The higher the number of the same lawbreakers she collects, the more lucrative it becomes. This happens through a respin feature, in the style of Jack Hammer and Barber Shop Uncut. Along the way, you can also collect extra multipliers.

Play ‘n GO had a super-strong year in 2018, with many impressive releases

We loved slots like Reactoonz, Sizzling Spins and Rise of Olympus. And what about the heavy rocking House of Doom?

This Iron Girl is not a top release. It has been ages since we have been this annoyed with a video slot.

Think it all sounds pretty cool? Alas, we are afraid you will feel cheated in the end.

We explain what all the things are that are wrong with Iron Girl by Play ‘n GO.

How does the Iron Girl slot work?

The game is played with 20 fixed paylines over 5 reels with 3 rows of symbols.

Bets range between a minimum of $€ 0.20 and a maximum of $€ 100 per spin.

The variance we estimate to be medium. The theoretical payout rate is excellent at 96.7 %

Respins: spin as long as you want

There are only 3 types of symbols with this slot that matter.

You have the card symbols that aren’t worth much. Not very interesting.

Then there are the wilds. These replace all symbols and, in this game, have the most annoying tendency of appearing in locations where they are of absolutely no use to you, and this happens pretty much without fail.

Last, but not least, we come to the villains. Spin a winning combination of 3 or more of the same scoff-laws (perhaps in combination with wilds), and you win the respin feature. The winning symbols remain in place, and as long as you add new symbols to it, you will keep winning free respins.

We have kind of had it with this type of feature.

Earn extra wilds multipliers up to 5 x

By collecting more symbols, the gauge on top of the screen will fill up further.

By reaching levels, you can earn extra multipliers or extra wild symbols:

  • Level 1: Extra wilds
  • Level 2: Multiplier of 2 x
  • Level 3: Multiplier of 3 x
  • Level 4: Multiplier 5 x

This may sound quite exciting, except for the fact that 95 % of the time, you can’t get beyond level 1 or 2.

Mystery Wilds Feature

This may perhaps be the most frustrating feature we have seen in ages.

When Iron Girl appears on the screen during a turn, she fires between 2 and 5 wilds on the reels.

The only problem is that they rarely, ever translate into winnings, and that’s a fact.

How she does it is beyond us, but she always fires the wilds in the wrong spots as to make any difference.

This, in turn, is responsible for ever-increasing blood pressure. After encountering this phenomenon for the 7th time in a row and having this feature pay out pretty much next to nothing, you are just about ready to wring this Iron Girl’s neck with your bare hands.

Our verdict on the Iron Girl video slot?

Iron Girl has a few big issues.

First: Besides the respins and the mystery wilds, there is no real main bonus feature.

That would not be the end of the world if the existing features would pay out more than 20 x to 40 x your bet on occasion.

And that hardly ever happens. We dropped at least $€ 350 to $€ 400 on this slot before getting a respin feature that pays out more than 50 x.

Second: The entertainment value isn’t there. When you exceed more than 1,000 spins, and you never win anything more than dozens of small consolation prizes and a whole lot of almost-but-not-quite mystery wilds, you’re fed up pretty quick with a slot.

To be clear: we didn’t sour on this game because we lost a bundle in short order. That is part of the game, and you won’t hear any complaints about that.

Iron Girl is just a very mediocre slot. That is the problem.
