Gold Money Frog slot review (Netent)

Gold Money Frog is an Oriental remake of Super Lucky Frog, and despite the visual upgrade this progressive jackpot slot has been given, we are astounded. There is so much wrong with this slot we almost don’t know where to start.

Slot variance explained

The top 10 most volatile (high variance) Netent Slots

The year has only just begun, and Netent has probably already won the award for the “worst slot of 2020.”

We’ll give it a try anyway (beware rant!):

  • The bonus features are dull.
  • It’s impossible to win big on this slot.
  • The payout rate is terrible (between 92.31% – 92.96%).
  • The theme is bland and uninspired.

This slot is part of a series of Netent classics that have been given a new oriental theme.

Slots such as Dead or Alive (Who’s The Bride?), Cosmic Fortune (Imperial Riches) and Fruit Shop (Sweety Honey Fruit) have all been given an Asian makeover to serve the lucrative Asian market better.

That’s all well and good, were it not for the fact that Super Lucky Frog, the online slot on which Gold Money Frog is based, has long been known as the worst slot Netent has ever made.

So why a remake of this particular slot? We don’t get it at all.

Isn’t there anything fun about Gold Money Frog?

No, there isn’t.

Gold Money Frog gameplay & features

Gold Money Frog is a video slot with 25 fixed winning lines, divided over 5 reels with 3 rows of symbols.

Betting starts at $€ 0.25 per spin and goes up to $€ 50 per spin.

The theoretical payout rate is, brace yourself, between 92,31% – 92,96%. And you can subtract up to 8% (!) per spin additionally to fill the three progressive jackpots. In other words, for the payouts in the base game, you’re left with an RTP of just over 84%

That’s painfully little.

The variance of Gold Money Frog is hard to determine: you seldom win anything substantial. We will go for medium.

Symbols & payouts

The symbols all have an Asian touch, so think of lots of gold, frogs, lanterns and kites.

The golden wild symbol replaces all symbols, except the, scatters and the bonus symbols. Spin 5 wilds on an active payline for a prize of 7,500 coins, which amounts to 300 x the total bet

The medium paying symbols are worth between 5 x and 20 x the total bet.

Just about every 2 spins, a small prize drops, which is a colossal hit frequency. That sounds more abundant than it is: most of the prizes you win don’t even pay back your wager.

Free spins bonus

Three or more scattered lanterns activate the free spins bonus. You win a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 30 free spins, with an x3 multiplier.

The free spins can be retriggered, and it is also possible to win the Jackpot Bonus game.

Jackpot Bonus Game

The Jackpot Bonus Game gives you the chance to win one of 3 jackpots:

  • Minor: this jackpot starts at $€ 50
  • Major: this jackpot starts at $€ 500
  • Super: this jackpot is worth at least $€ 5,000

To win the jackpot, you can spin a wheel and hope that the arrow lands on a jackpot.

If it doesn’t, you get a consolation prize of a meagre 100 coins.

Our verdict on the Gold Money Frog slot?

Usually, we are motivated to play even the worst online slots and will give them a try, even if there is less than only half a reason.

With Gold Money Frog, we only have one piece of advice: avoid this Netent slot at all costs. It is nothing more than a money drain, and an utterly boring one, at that.

Netent should be ashamed of this abomination. Just the ridiculously low payout rate of less than 93% is an outright insult (end of rant).
