Dragon Chase slot review (Quickspin)
At first glance, Dragon Chase would seem to be the umpteenth video slot with an Eastern dragon theme. But for Quickspin, this release is a significant milestone: it is their first progressive jackpot slot.
Play NowA progressive jackpot rises or falls with the game’s popularity: if a slot isn’t played often enough, the jackpot will barely grow.
If, on the other hand, it is well-liked, then the big jackpot will attract more players, which means even more players will play the game, which then translates into a bigger jackpot and so forth.
Quickspin looked very carefully at Netent’s success story Divine Fortune when producing Dragon Chase.
As far as gameplay goes, it is almost an exact copy: lots of walking wilds (or rather sinking wilds), a jackpot respin feature, and medium variance.
Fortunately, Quickspin did put a lot of original creativity into the theme and design: it has turned out to be a gorgeous slot with fire-breathing dragons and beautifully designed symbols.
How does Dragon Chase work?
You play Dragon Chase in the classic video slot setup: 5 reels with 3 rows of symbols.
There are 20 fixed paylines and betting starts at $€ 0.20, up to a maximum of $€ 100, per spin.
The theoretical payout rate is 96.39%, which includes a jackpot contribution of 1.5%.
We estimate the variance of this slot to be low to medium.
Many bonus features drop, but you won’t get rich of them anytime soon unless you manage to win that Grand Jackpot. It starts at $€ 55,000 and goes up until someone is lucky enough to snag it. After that, it is reset again to $€ 55,000.
Symbols and payouts
The game is set high in the golden clouds: this is where the dragon lives.
Two main bonus features are woven into the game and a mini-feature: the Wildfire symbols. How these bonuses exactly work will be explained in a little while.
First, a short explanation about what symbols are in the game and what their value is.
If you spin five wilds or lions on an active payline (or a combination thereof), you win 50 x the total bet.
The premium symbols consist of well-known Asian-inspired symbols: frogs, ingots, and I Ching coins. These will payout between 7.5 x and 12.5 x the total bet when you manage to spin five of the same ones.
Lastly, we come to the card symbols. These are worth between 2 x and 3 x the total bet with a 5-of-a-kind on an active payline.
Wildfire symbols
Wildfire symbols are spat out by the dragon at random times and can appear both in the primary game and in the free spins.
1 to 5 wilds appear on the reels, and these will drop down one spot after every turn. In the meantime, the dragon can again produce more Wildfire symbols.
Free spins bonus
Three scatters will get you 10 free spins. Every time you spin 2 scatters during these free spins; you will get +3 free spins added.
The dragon is extra active during the free spin bonus: he will conjure up many Wildfire symbols much more frequently.
And that is good news for you: more wilds mean more wins as a rule.
Jackpot Feature: win the progressive GRAND Jackpot
Three scattered jackpot symbols will bring you to this slot’s ultimate bonus game: the Jackpot Feature.
The principle is well-known: spin as many new jackpot symbols (Dragon Pearls) on the reels by way of respins.
Every jackpot symbol gets you a small prize, but what is even more critical: it is possible to land one of the four jackpots in the game.
The more jackpot symbols you spin, the higher the value of the jackpot becomes:
- 4 – 7 Dragon Pearl symbols: you win the MINI Jackpot (8 x the total bet)
- 8 – 11 Dragon Pearl symbols: you win the MINOR Jackpot (38 x the total bet)
- 12 – 14 Dragon Pearls symbols: you win the Major Jackpot (138 x the total bet)
- 15 Dragon Pearls: you win the progressive GRAND Jackpot (Hip Hip Hurray!)
Our verdict on the Dragon Chase video slot
Quickspin released an excellent first progressive jackpot slot. It may not hold too many surprises as far as bonus features, but it sure is entertaining.
It’s also good that only 1.5% is reserved for the progressive jackpot.
That way, plenty is left over to put into the payouts of the regular bonus features.
3.5 out of 5 stars.
